Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn defeats the Internal Revenue Service over a 1953 to 1959 calcutta wagering pool tax dispute. The court found the pool operated at a loss and the hotel argues profits were not direct. 90 percent returned to bettors, 10 percent to a cancer research fund.
Judge Foley set aside a Treasury regulation that taxed events with indirect profit. The court found the Desert Inn did not realize direct benefit from the wagering pool and actually sustained losses in 1955 1958. The decision will be entered into the U S District Court record tomorrow.

UPI reports eight Americans killed and 62 wounded in Viet Cong attacks on Pieiku and Camp Holloway near Pleiku. Seven Americans died and 48 wounded at the Camp Holloway airstrip amid a five minute barrage, with another American killed and 14 wounded at a nearby compound. Seventeen U.S. helicopters and three planes were destroyed.
