City Atty Sidney Whitmore will ask Las Vegas voters to elect him to a second term signaling continuation of policies and programs he says have benefited citizens. He is the first candidate to declare for the 1965 city elections, with four posts up for election next May and salaries rising with new terms starting July.
Elmer Dericco named director of the State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources replacing Hugh Shamberger who resigns to join the Desert Research Institute at the University of Nevada. Dericco will earn 15120 annually, succeeding George Hennen as water adjudicator with pay 13200.
Singer Connie Francis filed for divorce from Dick Kanellis former Sahara Hotel public relations director and SUN photographer. The suit cites mental cruelty and requests restoration of her maiden name. The couple married August 15 in Essex Fells New Jersey and honeymooned in the Caribbean.
A United Airlines Convair with 31 aboard made a wheels up emergency landing in a muddy field near Saugus California after both engines lost pressure. All survived with two minor injuries. Captain William M Wade praised the landing as perfect.
Clark County District Court extended a 15 day restraining order on AFGE pickets at the California Club for another 15 days. The ruling enforces the white line boundary and keeps doors accessible, with a show cause hearing set for Jan. 4.
