A multi million dollar blaze gutted four shops along half of Fremont Street near El Cortez on Glitter Gulch. Firefighters faced crowd control and water supply challenges as the Oriental Gift Shop Mel Aire Bridal Gifts and Jewelry Kay's Gift Shop and Rod's Photography were ruined. One firefighter suffered burns and was treated. other losses included wedding gowns and bridal attire valued in the hundreds of thousands.
