Recall ends NSW political crisis in North Las Vegas
The 1970 recall removed Mayor C. R. Cleland and two councilmen after a pro recall vote exceeding two to one. Officials faced legal fights, court rulings, and a police mediation that ended with arbitration and a pay raise for officers. Bleak finances and a budget overhaul followed as city managers changed and the utility fund’s use drew scrutiny.

Tribe Wins Land In Phoenix Area
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Tribe will receive 1,000 acres from Salt River Project in an out-of-court settlement ending disputes over the Arizona Canal Granite Reef Dam and a 69 kilovolt power line. The tribe will recognize US title to the structures and grant SRP a 50 year easement for the power line in exchange for payment equal to 125 percent of the land’s appraised value. Congress may need to approve the transfer and final settlement could take years.
