Romney Hints LBJ May Not Run Again
Michigan Governor George Romney suggested President Johnson might choose not to seek reelection. Romney, a leading 1968 GOP contender, said his candidacy would not depend on Johnson's plans and noted he may visit South Vietnam for a full understanding of the war. He also pressed for a tax increase to fund war costs and domestic programs, while deflecting questions about past support for Goldwater.
