Senate action on anti redlining mortgage bill advances in Senate
The measure would require banks to post mortgage loan locations to allow groups to pressure lenders who refuse financing in declining urban neighborhoods. It also extends for 14 months the interest ceiling on savings accounts with Passbook limits set at 5 percent for banks and 5 percent for savings and loan institutions. The bill, a House Senate compromise, cleared the Senate without debate and faces a House vote this week before potential presidential action.
