British anger over EPA report on Concorde noise
The British government blasted an Environmental Protection Agency study on Concorde noise as grossly inaccurate and professionally incompetent. Ambassadorial aide Alexander Gordon-Cumming accused the EPA of mismeasuring sound, delivering a protest letter to EPA Administrator Russell Train, and warned a U.S. hearing could threaten transatlantic SST operations with potential economic fallout.

George Bush Testimony on CIA Lead Odds for 1976 VP
President Ford's pick George Bush told the Senate committee a politician could head the CIA and pledged to set politics aside if confirmed. He hedged on rejecting a future vice presidency and faced opposition from Sen. Leahy and Sen. McIntyre who warned a politician as director would hinder intelligence. Bush noted past posts as UN ambassador and China envoy as proof politics can be left behind. Senate leaders questioned whether a political background suits the agency at a time of trouble. He said he would refuse if asked, but could not state with certainty he would decline.
