Retail Clerks Name Officers Runoff Chooses Betancourt Leader
Milton Betancourt became president and business manager of Retail Clerks Local 1536 after a runoff victory over Glen Snair 115 to 50. The election, described as the first free vote in 20 years, follows a trusteeship by the international union in 1965 over the local's finances. Betancourt, a veteran organizer, will head a three year term with a full slate of new officers as the union seeks to expand in Southern Nevada next year amid ongoing bonding company litigation seeking 30,000 dollars.
