The University of Nevada system delays naming a new chancellor until April with May 1 as an absolute deadline and actual appointment in June. Regents discussed 18 top candidates including Gov. Mike O Callaghan and Donald Raepler, acting chancellor, with six to ten to be interviewed in February.

Plane Crash Near Davenport Kills Two Crewmembers
A twin-engine light plane carrying two corpses for transport to Davenport crashed near the Davenport airport, killing the two-man crew. The crash occurred about a quarter mile northwest of the airport as the aircraft attempted to land, according to Scott County authorities.

Chrysler Recalls 46,000 Cars and Trucks Over Steering and Fuel Issues
Chrysler Corp. announced recalls of 22,000 passenger cars and 24,000 cab trucks amid steering column defects and fuel leakage risks. Affected 1976 Plymouth Volare Fury Monaco Diplomat models with tilt steering columns may lose steering due to a misaligned roll pin. Only about 2 percent of recalled vehicles are estimated to have the defect.
