A John Birch Society bid to block UNICEF Christmas cards backfired as Holman's in Pacific Grove resumed sales after a misunderstanding. Bank branches in Pacific Grove and Carmel kept doors closed to UNICEF volunteers, with pickets at the Carmel bank. UNICEF sales rose across Northern California amid protests, aided by support from business owners and State Sen. Fred Farr.
