Scenic Air Nears Full Scale Facilities at McCarran
Scenic Aviation prepared to open full scale general aviation facilities at McCarran International Airport as construction nears completion. Johnny Johnson said offices and shops are nearly finished and the site already offers fuel and tie downs. The firm was named the second FBO at McCarran after an FAA order promoting competition with Hughes Aviation Services. The project attracted three bids, with one rejected and another withdrawn. Johnson noted overhaul capabilities for turbine and Continental engines and upcoming Lycoming facilities. The facility can service some avionics and plans to add more testing equipment. Parking space is limited with 22 spaces currently, eight rented, and transient pilots occupy some. Total investment will reach about $500,000 upon current phase completion. Future plans include more parking, shade hangers, a tower and a restaurant in new buildings.
