Bookmaking Suspect Mum To Questioning
Michael Irvin Canon, under federal grand jury investigation for possible illegal bookmaking, refused to answer questions citing the Fifth Amendment. Canon, who first appeared Nov. 20, again declined on 48 queries Thursday and argued wiretap legality should be resolved first. U.S. District Judge Roger D. Foley held a hearing on whether Canon must testify and promised a ruling Friday, warning of potential imprisonment for the life of the grand jury if ordered to testify and still refusing.
