Romney Urges Volunteers as Society’s Answer at Convention

Former Michigan Governor George Romney told more than 800 delegates at a National Community Education Association convention in Las Vegas that a $90 million federal budget cut limits government and that volunteers must fill the gap. He said volunteers are an untapped resource for solving social problems and that no bureaucratic substitute exists. Romney, once head of Housing and Urban Development, argued government would have to massively expand to meet all needs, praising neighborhoods and private sectors as essential, and noted his work turning American Motors around as national attention.
