Where I Stand on Nevada Tax, Water, and Clark County

The writer critiques Nevada tax policy, water contracts, and distribution of tax revenue. He notes the Colorado River Commission pays 30 cents per acre foot while charging 55 cents, and Clark County would gain from Senate Bill 473 shifting more tax money to Clark County from electric plants. He references Fort Mohave reservations, Nye and Esmeralda counties, and Sierra Pacific Power Company, urging emphasis on northern Nevada’s economic base beyond gambling, and ends with a local jab about Clark County as a preferred visiting spot in certain seasons.

Laxalt Refuses Nevada Special Session Request

Gov. Paul Laxalt rejects District Attorney George Franklin’s plea for a special session to address four issues. Laxalt, after consulting lawmakers and counsel, says the problems do not justify the cost of a special session. The bond law concerns follow a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on voter equality.
