A Milwaukee native and Las Vegas resident for 10 years, Swessel emphasizes sound business management to ensure adequate future water supply. He is a WWII veteran, past commander of the American Legion and former president of multiple clubs, married with three daughters.
Capt Robert F. Arent of the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing was flying a disabled F 100 from Lakenheath England to McClelland AFB California when he crashed 14 miles from Boulder City Airport. A board of inquiry will investigate the crash.
Fred B. Houghton, a Republican ranch owner from West Smoke Ranch Road, seeks Las Vegas Valley Water District Division 2 directorship. He cites a $3.25 monthly connection charge and the district’s Lake Mead line abandonment as unfair, noting federal control risks. Houghton, born 1894, Chicago, is a University of Chicago Law School graduate and former deputy public defender in Los Angeles.
William C. Eaton of 419 North 15th Street enters the race for Water District 5. A Las Vegas resident 25 years, he worked in civil engineering and land surveying with his late father Frederick M. Eaton and is now with a local blueprinting shop. A World War II naval veteran, he has long served in the Chamber of Commerce and studied at the University of Virginia and Oklahoma A and M. He belongs to several tape correspondence clubs and has represented the Australian Tape Recordist Association in the U.S. and Canada for seven years.

Wilkey on October 4 for entering the First Savings and Loan with intent to commit larceny and assault was scheduled.
World Bridge Federation official Walterman Von Zedtwitz said the British players Terence Reese and Boris Spapiro may face review despite their acquittal by a British court. He noted the federation’s council found they exchanged illegal information tied to hands during the 1965 Buenos Aires world championships and will transmit findings to the British body for disposition.
