The Senate approved Bruce Thompson of Reno by voice vote to serve as federal district judge for Nevada. The 54 year old Reno native is a University of Nevada and Stanford Law School graduate. Witnesses Lied Ward's Pa Declares In Court
London reports that a friend who helped Dr Stephen Ward move into a flat says three witnesses lied at Ward's vice trial. John Hamilton Marshall stated he knew what happened at the flat and visited Ward several nights a week. Ward had been convicted of living off the earnings of prostitutes and later overdosed on barbiturates.

Paternity Suit Filed Over Venezuelan Perez Extradition
Judge Fulton dismissed a paternity action by 26 year old Ilona Lorenz seeking support for herself and 17 month old Monica Mercedes against Perez. He ruled the filing did not show irreparable damage if relief was denied. The suit remains to be acted on by August 17 for a State Department decision on extradition. Two Killed Two Injured In Crashes Near Border
Two crashes on U S Highway 9 near the Nevada California line left two dead and two hurt. Charles Meland 22 of Los Angeles and Elline Kelly 21 of Austin Minnesota died when their car was crushed between two tractor trailers driven by Phillip Holley 25 of Ontario California and Gilbert Dess 25 of Las Vegas. Kelly drove the car and perished as the vehicle burst into flames. Meland was thrown clear. A second crash six miles across the border injured Kenneth Mayes 60 and Eva Mayes, a Yucaipa California couple, treated and released at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital.
