Popejoy Death Suspect Freed

Las Vegas police released a suspect in the murder robbery of Calvin Popejoy, 35, the general sales manager of Biddulph Rambler Company, who was shot at Peyton Place bar. Funeral services for Popejoy were set for 11 a.m. at Bunker Brothers Chapel with burial at Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Nixon Seeks Tax Reform To Hit Rich And Help Poor

President Nixon urged immediate repeal of a special business tax credit and proposed cutting the 10 percent surcharge in half starting January 1. He told Treasury Secretary Kennedy to review the federal tax system and report by November 30 with basic changes as the first step in a broader fiscal reform plan.

Nixon outlines tax reforms including low income relief

President Nixon proposed a package to relieve two million low income families from income tax and provide relief to the young elderly disadvantaged and handicapped while instituting a minimum tax on the wealthy to cap write offs at 50 percent of income. He also called for immediate repeal of the 7 percent investment tax credit and a reduction of the income tax surcharge from 10 to 5 percent with possible elimination by July 1 1970. House Democrats favored repealing the investment tax credit.

Clark County to sue over utility valuation method

Clark County commissioners voted to sue to challenge the valuation method for utilities under the line mile basis. The target is the Cal Edison Mojave Steam Plant under construction in southern Nevada, with about 70 percent of its assessed value allocated outside Clark County. The move would cap potential county losses and tax-sharing shifts among adjacent counties.

Clark Board Votes To Increase Fees For LV Airlines

Clark County commissioners approved an airport ordinance raising airline rents. Landing fees will rise from 10 to 16 cents with a ramp fee set at 3 cents per thousand square feet. The measure aims to end uncontracted status since December 31 after last contract in 1959.
