Francisco Rozzini, director of the Musicians Concert Band No. 4, announces a free concert on the courthouse lawn Sunday at 4:30 p.m. It will be the first performance since Labor Day, with Rozzini promising a real treat for music lovers.
Union Pacific readies its first transcontinental Pullman streamline service from Chicago to the Pacific coast. The 900 horsepower V type Diesel power car leads a six car aluminum train, lighter than conventional steam trains, with three sleeping cars and a coach-buffet.
Howell W. Richardson of Rialto California visited Las Vegas and Boulder City renewing old acquaintances. It has been seventeen years since his last visit to Las Vegas. Richardson, an attorney now focused on mining, reports Jess Knight formerly of Goodsprings is succeeding with a Mojave California mining property that operates a 75 ton mill profitably.
By invitation of the American Legion Senator Pat McCarran spoke on The Constitution at Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce noon meeting. The chamber, after Harvey Luce’s report, urged the city to pass an ordinance like Green River Wyoming to bar house to house canvassing by peddlers and solicitors. Bob Russell gave a vacation wrap up, Walter Bracken announced 800 to 1000 Union Pacific Old-Timers Club members will visit Las Vegas and Boulder City Sunday. Dr. O I Cochran and Adams Brothers Garage joined the chamber.
Reynald Fyden president of the Boulder City Democratic Labor club returned from Carson City where he served on the federal grand jury the first of the week.
Mrs. Samuel Arentz and aides Harriet K. Arentz Dr. Mary Fulston and Dr. Frederica Keep all of Smith Valley traveled to Las Vegas for meetings with friends. They then left Thursday afternoon for Caliente to attend the Nevada Women's clubs state convention as delegates from the Smith Valley women's club.
The State of Nevada v Neil Anderson and Roy Squier nears jury submission this evening. Attorney Guy Baker for defendants will deliver closing arguments this afternoon as Judge Hawkins prepares jury instructions for deliberation.
The Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday September 25 followed by a social event.
The Old Timers Club of Union Pacific System employees will hold its annual picnic in Las Vegas and Boulder City Sunday with 687 Salt Lake City members and 162 from Los Angeles. Visitors will tour Boulder Dam, have lunch at Anderson's Mess Hall, and depart in the evening.
Government cooperative station data from Las Vegas shows seven days of high lows. Highest reading 105 degrees on the 18th, with lows as low as 62. Daily highs hovered around 101 to 105 and lows between 62 and 69 degrees.
The Woodcraft ladies host a party on the 87th of September at eight in the Eagles hall. Guests will play bridge five hundred and bunco with refreshments served afterward. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.
