Markets at a Glance by Otto E Strum
New York stocks opened dull and closed near the lows of the year as a lack of buyers kept trading on the sidelines. Wheat rose slightly on reports of grasshopper damage, cotton recovered, and bonds and currencies were mixed. American Telephone hit a new record low, while American Radiator fell to a post1940s low. Oil stocks steadied on a favorable crude report, Auburn Auto and Chrysler showed small gains, and rail stocks were quiet with mixed fractional changes.
