Poor Schooling Belief Challenged by Reformator y Chaplain

In Indianapolis on June 9 Rev. Lyman C. Murr of Pendleton Reformatory disputed the idea that youth crime is rising. He cited data since 1900 showing little change in inmate mentality, with illiteracy and lack of education as key factors and education as a solution. He noted only one college graduate among 1900–present inmates and few with high school education. He argued work and foundational education curb criminal tendencies and blamed home disruption and automobile use for rising crime, advocating education to emphasize laws protecting all people. The article also covers city board meeting actions on a paying ordinance, protests, and a committee plan to study oil-bound gravel pavement.
