A motoring division unit led by Captain O R Bird set new speed records from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City and back. The trip to Salt Lake took about 36 hours and 14 minutes actual running time, 60 hours shorter than the prior record, with a return plan to beat the 55 hour mark. The convoy faced hail and mud, with delays near St Thomas and Las Vegas. Crew included Captain Bird, C A Bigelow, and Sergeants H A Baker and Roy Hamilton, who will command motor sections. The Arrowhead Trail route is praised as the quickest coast to inland route.
