Snow covers surrounding mountains bringing early winter sports anticipation. Residents hope for a weekend of play while others stay near fires. The event promises feed for the coming year and prosperity in 1938. Palm Springs promotes snow sports as Vegas offers similar appeal.
Mrs. Sarah Perkins of Overton is recovering from a broken hip after treatment at a Las Vegas hospital. At 87 her age raises questions about full recovery but she is resting comfortably at home.
The Mesquite club met Friday afternoon at the clubhouse for a review of The Citadel by Cronin. Mrs. W. E. Ferron wrote the review and Mrs. Ruth Lusqh read it. Ford Waldo contributed a reading. Tea was served by Mrs. Kimball, Lawson, Mackey, Mendelson, Morse, and Garrison.
At the high school study hall on Monday evening the Tourism class heard Forest Ranger Clark Anderson speak about the fauna and flora of the Charleston park area. He outlined the forest service and CCC work plan and progress achieved.
Elko Free Press editor Mr E M Steninger and Mrs Steninger are in Las Vegas today. They will inspect Boulder Dam this afternoon, a structure they have not seen since completion. The pair are en route to southern California for a short vacation. Steninger is regarded as a leading Nevada newspaperman.
Gilbert C. Ross states President Roosevelt has approved funding for a nine hole Las Vegas municipal golf course on city land near the fish hatchery. The city must provide $4,000, with half in equipment values, to begin work.
Elko engineer Co F DeArmond has arrived to assume duties with the Colorado river commission. He accompanies Ed W Clark, commission member, from a Los Angeles conference with the city light and power officials.
Intermountain chamber executives from Colorado California Idaho Montana Nevada New Mexico Utah and Wyoming formed a permanent 8 state organization in Salt Lake City after a two day session sponsored by the Salt Lake City chamber. Prominent speakers included Nelson A. Loomis Erwin mayor of Salt Lake City R H Rutledge and D H Madsen as the group aimed to coordinate regional efforts in tourist travel grazing irrigation and other industries with Nevada represented by Vail M. Pittman and Oliver Goerman.
Mr and Mrs Bryan L Bunker greet the arrival of their son at a Las Vegas hospital on Tuesday morning. The newborn is the couple’s fourth and all previous boys are reported healthy.
The film You're Only Young Once shown at the El Portal on Wednesday and Thursday last week drew strong praise in Las Vegas. It centers on a family, with Lewis Stone portraying a patient father. The comedy drama captures youth’s beauty and pitfalls with affectionate parenting and engaging moments, signaling a promising Hardy family series.
Robert Griffith was unanimously elected to head the Las Vegas chamber of commerce with officers and a broad slate of directors announced for the coming year. Induction will occur February 1, with R. J. Kaltenborn as first vice president and James A. Fleming as second vice president.
William DeForest of Logandale died Monday at the county hospital from a heart attack. Survived by two sisters and a brother in Pennsylvania, his body was taken to the Garrison mortuary. Dr. and Mrs. Forest R. Mildren entertained Mr and Mrs Ross Cooper, a breeder of fine horses.
Mr and Mrs Lee A McNamee and daughters spent several days last week visiting their daughter Marion in San Francisco.
