The Age announces the largest prize campaign yet in Clark county with a 1928 Buick 2 door Sedan worth $1470, $300 in gold, and cash commissions. Entry requires clipping a coupon, submitting name and address, and may award 5,000 free credits plus a first subscription. Pro campaign opens tomorrow with broad appeals for energetic entrants to win top prizes.
The Board of City Commissioners approved two new traffic ordinances on their Thursday session. One enforces boulevard stops, tested earlier, and the other limits parking on Fremont Street to one hour from 9 am to 6 pm. Cars downtown must park at forty five degrees with front wheels within two feet of the curb.
Three hundred or more shooters from California and Utah travel to Las Vegas for the fourth annual tri state Blue Rock trap shoot. Events include amateur doubles at 10 am and singles at 1 pm Saturday, night shooting at 7:30 pm, team events Sunday at 8 am, and prizes from 15 to 1. Exursions to Valley of Fire and Boulder Canyon dam sites and three baseball games. Banquet prizes awarded Sunday at 6 pm.
County Clerk Scott has installed a flat filing system to store court records. The new method saves space and time for attorneys and staff, as papers stay flat in folders and do not require folding. It reduces loss risk since documents are fastened and remain with their file.
A seven million dollar shipment is being rushed from Jacksonville to Miami by air to avert a bank panic, as three of Miami’s major banks closed their doors. The total seven million dollars remains tied up in the process.
A conference in Washington on February 6 gathered advisors from California Nevada and Arizona to maximize revenue from Boulder Canyon Dam power for the benefit of Arizona and Nevada. W Tomlinson, wife of Lieut Tomlinson of the Aircraft Squadron in San Diego, becomes the first local woman to fly from San Diego to Death Valley and land in a Jenny piloted by her aviator husband. The trip cost about 45 dollars and followed 50,000 miles of previous flights by Tomlinson, who notes air travel is cheaper than car trips for pleasure.
R D Bingham announced yesterday afternoon that he has taken the agency for the Whippet and Willis Knight motor cars. Two railroads are already on the way to Las Vegas, two of the Whippet cars having already been sold. The first shipment will include sedans, coaches and cabriolet coupes. Mr Bingham expects another shipment of the cars within a month.
Rudy Hamilton of Bradley California won the semi finals in a night staged by the American Legion last Friday. He is an up and coming lightweight managed by Johnny Villade and has nine fights with five knockouts.
Cleveland capitalists backing the hotel project are due in Las Vegas within a few days. They have spent the past week in Los Angeles reviewing all details of the large undertaking with the aim of reaching a definite decision.
Major General Lejune arrived at Los Angeles aboard the Tanker Salitas after a two week inspection in Nicaragua. He said fighting there is worse than in France during World War I but added the situation is well in hand and he could not forecast how long until rebels are subdued.
The Vagabonds orchestra, formed under Giles Morrison, will play at regular Wednesday and Saturday dances starting tomorrow at Elk's Hall. The group promises A 1 dance music with members Dave White on sousaphone Ralph Thompson on drums Goodwin on trumpet D Orston on saxophone Wayne Truby on bass and Morrison on banjo.
W J Stewart county commissioner chairman woke to placer location notices on forty acres of his land and on Grand View Additions and Union Pacific property. Locators C Dugger E C Dugger W L Wogan Haroll Edwards claimed to represent a mineral soap company. Stewart ordered the locators off as trespassers. sheriff backed him up. Wogan withdrew from further involvement. Stewart suspects a blackmail scheme to force him to buy back his own property at a high price.
Six suits filed in the District Court since February show desertion as the main cause in four cases. Plaintiffs include F Wupper and Eugene Wupper Seville Gene Parks and Ethel Parks John Powers and Effie Powers Oliver Earle Peterson and Anna Peterson and others. Marriages range from 1897 to 1920 with several children noted.
Virgin Valley High School defeats Las Vegas High 22 to 13 at Bunkerville Friday evening. Rough play unsettled Vegas, two players fouled out, game tilted by late momentum for Virgin Valley.
Deputy Sheriff R. G. McCubrey nabbed Louis Young, an escaped Deer Lodge Prison trustee, at a Clark County telegraph office. McCubrey identified Young from a photo file, verified his identity, and he awaits extradition. A $100 reward was awarded to McCubrey.
Mrs. Victor Barndt completes a family consolidation by transferring to Elizabeth Barnett all her interest in the Hot Creek Ranch, uniting the old Williams homestead and related lands in Nye County. The deal, estimated at 25 000 to 30 000 dollars, makes Barndt a major landowner with nearly 1000 acres including range parcels.
The 1928 budget was discussed at a joint County and City Commission meeting focusing on street paving in the city. Officials debated tax rates, valuations, and a five cent county fund cut, with no final agreement and plans to reconvene. Eight local speakeasies raided by federal officers yielded eight arrests, each released on a $1,000 bond.

Argentena Consolidated Mining Company completes pilot plant work begun October 25, 1927. Findings warrant additional equipment to recover ore values. During installation the mill and mine will shut down starting February 1.
