Wells Fargo to absorb Pacific Express on regional rails

Wells Fargo & Company will take over the Pacific Express Company on the Salt Lake and Las Vegas and Tonopah rail routes. Agents were in Las Vegas last week to audit the local office. The change, linked to Harriman interests, may reduce charges between Las Vegas and Los Angeles though impact elsewhere remains minor.

B M Lawrence shot and seriously wounded W B Devereaux in a water hole dispute near Fo ton last August. A San Bernardino jury acquitted Lawrence after a surprising verdict. The mining corporation Devereaux helped prosecute Lawrence reportedly influenced the jury in Lawrences favor. Lawrence and Devereaux are said to have since settled their differences over the water holes.

Goldfield Bullfrog Camps Restored by 400 Soldiers

Goldfield, Beatty, and Bullfrog area see 400 troops deployed to restore order after years of lawlessness. Mine owners plan immediate reopening under protection, with wages at 4.00 to 4.50 and precedents for workers. Calls grow for permanent barracks to deter agitators while railroads and banks resume activity in a recovering mining district. HL Bigelow, touring desert roads in a Reo, passed through Searchlight and El Dorado canyon on the way to Las Vegas and Mesquite Springs. He reports the road in bad condition and recommends abandoning the route for autoists, planning a marked desert road system for Southern California and Southern Nevada. Editor shoots Francis L Burton at Mina in deadly dispute

Francis L Burton, a banker and promoter, was shot and killed Tuesday by J Holtman Buck editor and proprietor of Western Nevada Miner. Burton went to Buck's office to confront him over a paper roast. Buck, known as a gun fighter, fired first. Back is described as having a good reputation.
