Engine Explosion Kills Crew on Westbound Freight

An engine explosion near Kelso killed engineer Claude Bailey and fireman Wiley and injured others. The wreck occurred as a westbound freight train ran at speed. bodies were found along the track, a coroner’s inquest ruled accidental death with no blame.

Vein Extension Found in Johnnie District Nevada

Reports say Mackle and Rathborne along with H L Smith located a potential extension of a substantial vein in the Johnnie district Amargosa Nevada. The ore is copper with minerals between porphyry and silver bearing lime. A shaft has begun on the property and the vein is described as traversing the country for miles with a width of four to thirty feet.

Willow Creek District organized by prospectors in Greenw area

A meeting of twenty prospectors formed the Willow Creek district for four miners in the Greenw area. They claim properties in the Willow Creek basin with boundaries south to Sheep Creek east to the Dagger road north to Oddie's wash and west to Death Valley.

May Sutton sues the Salt Lake Railway Company in the United States District Court at Los Angeles for 15200 damages from injuries in a wreck last year. She alleges that near Acoma Nevada on October 9, 2006 a train derailed causing permanent injuries.

Head of Muddy Valley Sold to Colonizing Syndicate

The Age reports the entire head of the Muddy Valley west of the Salt Lake rail line, about 3000 plus acres, has been sold to a colonization syndicate led by Burtner and Livingston of Salt Lake City. Deals include Keiman ranch 360 acres, Jones ranch 544, Storer property 2000, Baldwin and Wilsker 190. Geo Baldwin reserves 80 acres for a home ranch. The promoters aim to bring 60 families this fall, build an irrigating canal and possibly an electric railroad from Moapa to the valley head, where soil is noted as highly productive. Geo C Win has shipped 400 crates cantaloupes this season and over 1000 dozen cucumbers from a quarter-acre.
