Aboard the Corydon the crew faced a long night of fear as a vulture perched on the spars while the ship battled smashing seas. After drifting 63 hours on a battered upturned boat eight survivors reached safety, noting the bird's ominous presence before the vessel finally went under in the Bahama Channel.

New Orleans reports a tropical disturbance moving northward into Louisiana west of the Mississippi River mouth. The weather bureau warns of dangerous easterly gales, likely hurricane force by Saturday night, shifting to westerly and southerly along the coast by Sunday morning.
The weather bureau stated today that the storm will not hit Galveston. No damage reported and officials expect the system to pass offshore, easing fears among residents and businesses along the coast.
New Orleans report dated September 13 says the tropical disturbance has struck the mainland, with the Weather Bureau placing activity somewhere between Burwood at the river mouth and the western territory.
Houston reports a rising barometer is seen by the weather bureau as final dispelling all fear that the tropical disturbance will strike Houston. The bulletin notes no immediate threat and urges preparedness.
