Monterrey Assayer Dies at Niagara Falls Rapids
William Howard McCutcheon, an assayer from Monterrey, Mexico, fell into the Niagara River rapids about 2,000 feet above the American falls. He was carried downstream under the Goat Island bridge and over the brink as spectators watched in horror. Harvey L. Alexander of Boston, Mass. was with him. efforts to rescue failed and McCutcheon’s body disappeared into the gorge. Recovery expected on the Canadian side in a few days.
