Sam W. Brown, longtime cashier of the Laredo National Bank, has left for Brownsville to assume the role of active vice president at the First National Bank of Brownsville tomorrow. He is regarded as a top state banker. His wife and daughter will join him in Brownsville around Christmas.
An old advertisement for Dr Edwards Olive Tablets touts cleansing effects and a gentle action. Separately Webb County sends Enrique Foster and Ely Grayson as the first Black men to depart for Camp Travis for the national army. They join John Menafee of Cameron County. three Negroes examined, two drafted, all express eagerness to combat the Kaiser.

Detroit October 31 The case against Ford Motor Company and Henry Ford to compel payment of accumulated dividends to Dodge stockholders instead of reinvestment was settled in favor of John and Horace Dodge. The Dodge brothers won the suit, confirming their claim to the dividends.
Middleboro Massachusetts October 31 Countess Magri known worldwide as Mrs Tom Thumb is seventy six years old today. She spent the past summer quietly on her War Rentown estate where she was born. Her second husband Count Magri travels with her and she says she is not done appearing before the public.
Pimlico Md Oct 31 The concluding race meeting of the year in this section begins tomorrow with the Autumn meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club. Horses from Laurel and New York tracks are expected, and a record-breaking meet is predicted. The program spans twelve days with ten feature events and added money totaling 44500 dollars.
