Broom Corn A Profitable Crop For Webb County Farmers

A broom manufacturer viewed Laredo broom corn crops of Ambrose Johnson and Rev J Ward as ready for harvest with high potential. If planted widely, sections could supply markets early July with prices from 300 to 400 dollars per ton and an estimated eight hundred pounds of graded broom corn brush per acre. The crop offers fodder value too, and seedings now require under ninety days to pulling. Webb County Farm Demonstrator Fred W. Mally urges rapid planting and notes the market remains strong in the northern broom corn districts. Also a note on teething babies recommending McGee’s Baby Elixir for soothing gums and digestion priced 25 cents to one dollar per bottle.
