Porfirio Diaz former Mexican president died in Paris and a simple funeral is planned. Arrangements are not yet completed. Diaz born Oaxaca September 15 1830 began military career in 1847 first elected president in 1877 and ruled until 1911. He was respected as a soldier and astute statesman though regimes faced opposition in later years.
Washington on July 3 reports the United States will prosecute Huerta for conspiring to incite revolution in a friendly country. The statement underscores U.S. legal action for involvement in foreign political upheaval.

Kansas City, July 3. Seventy saloons shut tonight under a March order by the police commissioners new rules. About a hundred saloons affected, thirty closed at once, forty brewery-owned outlets closed. Main Street between 12th and 76th streets now may host one licensed saloon per block, middle block location, cigar store front, and no bottle displays allowed.
J P Morgan, financial agent of Great Britain, was shot twice at his Long Island country home by Frank Holt of Dallas. Holt claimed divine sanction to kill over arms export embargo protests and carried revolvers, cartridges, dynamite, and nitro seldom. The incident produced little market impact.
The Dallas district Methodist Church announces that Holt, son of President Elder J. Sensabaugh, will arrive in Dallas in August to lead the French department at Southwestern University. He comes with his wife and children.
A Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul passenger train fell through a trestle near Tacoma Washington this morning. Many are reported killed and injured according to a dispatch from the Associated Press.

Rev. Thomas Van Ness of Brookline Mass arrives aboard the American liner Philadelphia sailing to Liverpool to preach a series of sermons in Birmingham England. He will lecture at the University of Birmingham on the topic American Sentiment during the summer series.
Louisville, Ky., July 8. Judas Babey, convicted of murdering his wife on April 23, faces execution by electric chair, the first white Louisville murderer to be so punished. His defense claimed insanity, with his mother testifying she believed he was struck on the head.
A granite shaft commemorates the erection of Fort Ligonier unveiled at Ligonier Pennsylvania by the Sons of the American Revolution. The monument contains a bronze tablet detailing the fort built in 1758 after George Washington designed the plans. The old fort remains well preserved. General Forbes and Col. Washington marched from it against Fort Duquesne and the relief expedition for Fort Pitt was organized there.
