Turks, angered by British and French subjects attempting to depart Turkish territory on an American vessel, launched an assault. The commander of the Tennessee intervened promptly to quell the attack and prevent further danger to the ship and crew.
American Consul Silliman in Mexico City denies a charge by General Palafox that he and others took a half million peso bribe to free former Governor Iturbide. Silliman calls the accusation absurd and notes Iturbide’s role as former governor of the Mexican Federal District and Palafox’s personal grievance.
The Carranza agent said Gutierrez demanded Villa stop political activity, Villa refused, and Gutierrez now contemplates rejoining Carranza's leadership.
In Naco Arizona on December 26 Maytorena's Villa forces began a tactical retreat out of range of American soil. They pulled back about ten miles toward safer positions as U S forces observed the movement.
