Newport R I April 3 Mrs Annie B Davis widow of Egyptologist Theodore M Davis plans to sue to enforce a million dollar agreement promised by her late husband. Probate will open Monday with dispute over the estate and the Egyptian antiquities including Amenhotep IV’s mummy and other relics tied to the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York. Davis argues estate investments cannot meet bequests and offers to aid the museum with fifty dollars toward purchasing the Davis collection.
A semi official Petrograd statement says Russia supports Italy’s aim for Trieste and Trent while urging restrained claims to avoid a new global conflict. The note underscores Italy’s boundary concerns with Austria amid wartime preparations. The report notes no British mission to Rome by Lord Rosebery. Vienna cites Bukowina fighting as more decisive and Russia’s reinforcement and repulse. Giornale d Italia asserts Serbia’s right to benefit from Austria’s disruption and Italy’s strategic reasons to gain new territory.
