Heroic fighting saves Gramm from forest fires

Fire raged from a spark on the engine with strong winds driving a blaze toward Gramm. Volunteers from Laramie and Centennial valley dug trenches and formed backfires to protect the town while mobilizing crews and supplies from Cheyenne and nearby camps.

Five Killed in Explosion at Powder Mills

In Trinidad on June 30 the Dupont Powder Mills at Augusta reported multiple deaths from a late yesterday explosion. William Wilcox died of burns, raising the death toll to five after Superintendent Joseph Jeandel and three other workers were killed instantly. The blast wrecked the plant and damaged about 1000. The cause is unknown but not believed to be incendiary.

Miss Esther Johnson of the University extension offices left this morning on No 10 for Cheyenne to visit Ming Ruth Nash, a former University student, and Ethel Pfeiffer of Kemmerer, a local graduate, who are also visiting with Miss Nash.

Training Camp Applications Open for Presidio Officers

The local Military Training Camp committee seeks six applicants for officer training at the Presidio. Examinations require three committee members and a favorable report from at least two. Emphasis on leadership, standing, education, and prior military training. Applicants over 41 get preference. under 32 must have strong qualifications. All must be examined before the state committee, with applications due by July 15 in San Francisco.
