After careful care and a strong constitution Mr Mead has shown marked improvement though the past week in Washington has been very warm and trying. He may be able to move about only after another month even following hospital discharge.
An engineer on a Sherman steam shovel died after being struck by the shovel arm while repairing or oiling the machine. He was transported toward Cheyenne but died at Granite Canon. The deceased is identified as C. H. Corrigan with a wife in Chicago. An inquest is delayed to tomorrow to complete the coroner’s investigation.
Washington June 6 The renowned Prof Elwood Mead is released from emergency care after a long arm injury. He will rest for ten days to two weeks before returning to the Chat Institution duties.
Richard known as Indian Dick recounts being captured on the Laramie plains in 1849 and living with the Shoshone since childhood. He served as a government scout under Gen. Crook and now runs a large cattle ranch on the Shoshone Reservation near Lander Wyoming.
Fire destroyed the big coal chutes at Medicine Row with sparks from a passing engine suspected as the cause. The runway and approach survived, two unloading cars burned, and a large coal reserve lost. Two other cars on the elevated trestle were damaged but remain stranded high above ground with no means to descend.
Westbound Wabash Limited from Boston to St Louis derailed nine miles west of Peru Indiana. Fifteen Italians killed and forty injured, including Mrs William Cotten wife of Iron Mountain official and John Ickes of New York. Wreck described as one of northern Indiana’s worst. Details scarce due to distance.
Funeral services for Mrs. Edwards who died in Iron Mountain Monday night were held at the Presbyterian church with Rev. A. C. Hogbin delivering the sermon. Prof. Wm. Marquardt sang Angela Ever Bright and Fair. The church displayed extensive floral tributes and many attendees accompanied the burial at the cemetery. Separately the report notes Austria-Hungary’s force in China reduced to two vessels and 100 men.
Yesterday two intimate ceremonies took place in Laramie with Mary I Gates marrying G. F. Garlock of Guernsey and Samuel Crawford tying with Miss Osborne. Both couples received generous presents and plan to reside in Laramie area, while a third ceremony for Lee McCune and Hattie Hunt occurred amid family bereavement.
Washington June 26 The war department released an order issued by General MacArthur on May 30 directing the release of 500 prisoners of war to facilitate pacification of the archipelago The directive cites surrender and acceptance of U S sovereignty under General Mascardo commanding insurgent forces in the provinces
Record heat reaches 92 degrees in Pittsburgh. Edward Calloway, 20, dies from heat exhaustion. Between 75 and 100 men are driven from Homestead steel works and National Tube at McKeesport suspends several departments. More plants may close if hot spell persists.
John W Considine shot and killed ex-cases of police W. L. Meredith in Seattle at 0:26 pm at Guy's drug store on Second Avenue and Yeserway. Considine was wounded in the head by a shotgun blast from Meredith.

George H. Griffin a switchman for Colorado & Southern railroad was captured after striking a woman near the Thirty first Street viaduct in Denver. A bystander with a shotgun and a special policeman pursued him, wounding Griffin in a pistol and bringing him to the city safet y.
