Conductor Thomas Cummings Killed in Railroad Accident

Thomas Roland Cummings died after his head struck bridge iron while his coal train sped to Rawlins. Found on a sand bar in the Laramie River near Howell Bridge nine miles from the city, his death was ruled instantaneous. He leaves a wife and two children and was a longtime Union Pacific conductor.

Troops Relieve Siege as Train Reaches Trinity Station

In Trinity Texas on June 22 a special troop train arrived riddled with bullets. Cavalry freed a light guard besieged in a schoolhouse by an armed mob. A man named Levy Spencer was moved to safety as firing continued, three mob members reported hit. The soldiers departed with no further incidents.

Four shots fired last night with few injuries. Sheriff and deputies guard Lick Ford mine amid possible further unrest. Governor White has not yet been asked to mobilize militia.
