Northwestern wreck leaves engineer dead and many injured

Casper Wyoming June 7 The Chicago and Northwestern passenger train No 603 derailed west of Casper after leaving the track at a 20 foot embankment. Engineer H Shean was badly crushed probably fatally. The wreck sent passengers baggage and mail cars tumbling as one coach overturned and another stayed upright amid spreading rails.

Washington reports a daily deficit of two million dollars for railroad operations in April and the year so far. Director General Walker D. Hines cites reduced business and higher costs for materials as the main causes and notes an April deficit near 68 million dollars after rent deductions.
