Flood toll climbs with 47 dead in Pueblo and surrounding areas. Prominent iron and fuel plant owner E. E. Withers dies in a late night shooting after the flood wreckage.Authorities search for a gunman while coroners hearings remain closed to the press.
A Baxter family of nine perished in a flood near Baxter, six miles from Pueblo. Nal Kendall, ten, initially escaped but was later found dead after refusing to heed warnings.
Pueblo Colorado sees signs of relief as lighting and partial service return. Mud drains and cleanup proceed despite no word yet on federal funds. Governor Shoup appeals for state relief. Railways remain out of commission though R G hopeful for valley train service.
