Floods devastate Katiaiy City and surrounding areas as 2000 residents become destitute. Stores and buildings suffer widespread losses in waters rising toward 35 feet. Local forecaster Edward H. Bowie warns rapid crest and urges protective action by Monday.
A Santa Fe Chicago and an eastbound passenger train collided near Stilwell Kansas amid floods. Seven dead and three injured, with three tramps among the deceased. Conductor Frank Johnson among the injured. both trains halted by washed-out tracks. relief and hospital transfers followed.
The Hamburg American line steamer Deutschland, sailing for Plymouth Cherbourg and Hamburg, ran aground in Gedney channel New York lower bay during dense fog at 4:30 pm after high tide. The ship carried TH passengers and $4,000,000 in treasure.

In Cheyenne Wyoming on June 5 Kels P Nickell father of the boy assassinated and connected to the Tom Horn case will be tried in district court for assaulting FH Whitman an Irog mountain ranchman in the Union Pacific yards where Nickell worked as a guard. He claims a plot to assassinate him at Whitman’s ranch with Whitman as meeting chairman. The trial promises to be very interesting.
Washington June 5 The War Department revokes its order relieving Capt. H M Chittenden from Yellowstone National Park superintendent duties and assigns him to the Philippines. Secretary Root decides it would be a mistake to displace him and he will continue in his present position indefinitely.
Warren Belty, son of Postmaster Holtz, ran an awl through his hand yesterday afternoon while repairing a bicycle at Brandia shop. The wound was dressed and disinfected by a doctor and is expected to heal quickly.
Superintendent Berry of the Tie Preserving plant installed an electric light plant at the tie yards. It operated for the first time last night and gave great satisfaction to workers and managers.

Missoula jury returns verdict that Paul Wagnity, a county assessor, was murdered and his body found in the river yesterday. The skull shows a blunt instrument blow and no water entered the lungs, indicating death before disposal. No motive or suspect identified in the ruling.
