The Hamburg American line steamer Deutschland, sailing for Plymouth Cherbourg and Hamburg, ran aground in Gedney channel New York lower bay during dense fog at 4:30 pm after high tide. The ship carried TH passengers and $4,000,000 in treasure.

Mining Exchange to Exhibit at Sheridan and St Louis Conventions

Foley 18 to Have Another Trial

The Utah Supreme Court orders a new trial for Foley 18, a former convict jailed in Evanston who seized the jail and held the sheriff hostage. Belle Fisher was convicted of attempted bribery, fined $500, with attorney Ryckman fined $25. The retrial will be in Carbon County with Uintah County bearing costs. reports note Tommy the Kid was recently hanged in Montana.

Nickell Trial Set in Cheyenne Next Tuesday

In Cheyenne Wyoming on June 5 Kels P Nickell father of the boy assassinated and connected to the Tom Horn case will be tried in district court for assaulting FH Whitman an Irog mountain ranchman in the Union Pacific yards where Nickell worked as a guard. He claims a plot to assassinate him at Whitman’s ranch with Whitman as meeting chairman. The trial promises to be very interesting.

Washington June 5 The War Department revokes its order relieving Capt. H M Chittenden from Yellowstone National Park superintendent duties and assigns him to the Philippines. Secretary Root decides it would be a mistake to displace him and he will continue in his present position indefinitely.
