Armstead Mines reports at 1600 foot depth the No 8 vein has been cut with 100 feet of ore on each side. Main drift extends beyond the vein and a raise will connect with the No 2 level to reach the target by month end. Equipment ordered in Spokane includes steel, powder, rails, pipe, timber for the raise.

New York reports 250 survivors from the liner Carolina torpedoed off New Jersey by German submarines. Ten passengers and seventeen crew are unaccounted for. Rescue crews, Red Cross, and Woman's Motor Corps aided survivors as gunfire and whistles rang from port to harbor.

J Redburn C Mahy and other local businessmen sold a section lease near Rock River town site one mile from town and seven miles east of the new Ohio well. The lease on Section 12 township 19 range 77 was bought by the California Ot Ayndicaty for 4 kg of oil property and drilling to begin within sixty days. The reported price is about 5000 dollars.
