Public notice of advertising rates lists 12 cents per line for first insertion and 5 cents per line for each following insertion. Transient ads such as Lost items, For Sale, Want Ads, Socials, Concerts incur 50 cents first insertion and 25 cents subsequent. The Military Service Act is not well understood by many affected individuals. A proclamation for the first class is published elsewhere and affected men should consult their postmaster, who has forms for service reports or exemption claims. All in this class must file by November 10. The group includes unmarried or widowed men with no children, aged at least 20 on July 6, 1917, born on or after January 1, 1883.
The article warns Canadians that delay is costly under the new Military Service Act as exemptions must be filed promptly. It urges immediate reporting of service or exemption claims after the proclamation and emphasizes that timely action aids the Exemption Board and serves national interest.
