The brief records illness and recoveries including flu patients Charlie Sears and Ted Geary, deaths of Ben Kelleway, and social notes on births, marriages, travel, births in late October and November, local school and church closings, plus comments on local business, elections, and a Victory Loan update for Landis and nearby towns.
In Springwater the influenza outbreak has caused several deaths. Annie McMillan, 19, wife of Wilfrid McMillan, died Friday after influenza and pneumonia. Mrs. Oscar Chambers and other young women also died. A Kenevhtel family near Kelfield has suffered six deaths in a ten member household. Fuller details are to be sent to the Record office.
Toronto's death rate from influenza stood at 327 per 100 000 with Landis village reporting a rate six times higher. The Canadian registrar for military service under the Military Service Act had nearly completed duties and orders for all but the 19 year old class were cancelled indefinitely. These men remain liable for registration though not required to report for service.
The Record informs Saskatchewan readers that it remains the only paper in the province priced at 1.00 per year if paid in advance, 1.50 otherwise. After January 1, unpaid accounts will be handed to collectors and names removed from the list.
The Landis community awards an honor flag and crown to N E Nonn for exceeding a 25 percent Victory Loan allotment. The gesture, presented by the Governor-General of Canada, praises local efforts and unity in Northern Saskatchewan. President Wilson’s Europe trip is noted as leaving next week and returning mid January.
Public notice states resident electors of Landis Village will meet at the Town Hall on the second day of December 1918 from 1 to 2 PM Mountain Standard Time to nominate candidates for the Village Council. Dated November 25, 1918.
Notice from Rural Municipality of Bushville No 348 calls electors to Lydden Hall on a day in 1918 from 1 to 2 pm Mountain. purpose to nominate a reeve and councillors for Divisions 1 3 and 5 and to hear the interim financial statement for ten months of the year. Returning Officer Wierrw STemre signs the notice.
