Doctor Lackner, dentist in Biggar, a graduate of Toronto and Philadelphia colleges, succeeds Dr. Moyer. Office open daily next to the Dominion Land Office.
Local Red Cross notes report two women delivering locks and several members enlisting through a $2.00 fee to Treasurer Mrs P J Thompson. The 15 February Whist Drive at Mrs Thompson's brought twenty ladies for knitting, music, and a tea lunch with donations totaling $27.00.
Theyelebrated Korndyke Ball, a three year old Holstein with dam Rockanna Korndyke Lass weighs 1800 pounds and carries Registered No 156718 with the Holstein-Friesian Association of America. May be seen at the farm of E Greenwoop Salter P.O.
Notice under Surrogate Court Rules to all claimants against the Joseph Merkowsky estate who died about May 24 1917. Claims must be sent by February 28 1918 to Nay and Irvine solicitors for Vincent Merkowsky administrator. After this date distributions proceed. administrators not liable for unnotified claims. The Landis Literary Society met at the Church Institute on Tuesday with Rev. So Thomas delivering a Burns address about the poet's humble life and enduring talent. Selections and songs were performed by local speakers and singers as officers were elected including Rev. T. J. Williams as president and Miss Vera Atkinson as secretary. The group plans weekly meetings and a social evening with games next week.
Scores from Jan 24 to 30 show close games with several one shot margins. The rink hosts a Red Cross fundraiser Saturday evening with Mrs Bell and Mrs N E Nunn serving coffee and cake.
Mr. L. P. Varley returned from Iowa on Tuesday while Mr. Cal McAfee came back from the southern province after a few weeks away. Jimmy Fox and his company performed in town last evening drawing a good crowd, though a dog disrupted the scenery. A Red Cross event at the rink Saturday offers coffee sandwiches and cake served by Mrs. Bell and Mrs. N. E. Nana, inviting attendees to contribute two bits.
A young man, eager for military life, repeatedly attempted to enlist across 1916, aided by luck and deception. He served briefly in Edmonton then Calgary, but an eye injury and birth certificate blocked overseas service. He shipped to England for training before being sent home to Regina.
The annual meeting of the Landis Grain Growers Association is adjourned to Saturday February 9 at 2 pm in the Landis Hotel. Temperatures have ranged 27 to 44 below zero during the first three nights of the week.
