In Galway on November 23, political prisoners in Galway jail seized keys and barricaded wardens after a fire of uncertain origin erupted in two sections. Ten men and six wardens faced off in a separate area as the blaze spread. The fire was controlled later, and five policemen and five prisoners were injured in the ensuing struggle.
Fred S Kohler, once a dethroned police chief, rose to Cleveland mayor in eight years after a long career starting on the force in 1889. His campaign relied on a house to house canvass and a pledge to clean up the city with a city manager. Paris Nov 28 Diplomatic relations between the American and German embassies, broken in 1917, were tentatively restored when Ambassador Herrick formally presented to Wilhelm Mayer von Kaufhouren. Herrick initiated the steps citing Kaufhouren’s seniority as a factor in dialogue.
K A Nestor of Minto was inaugurated as North Dakota's thirteenth governor late today. He took the oath with Attorney General Jolson and Joseph Kitchem as agriculture commissioner. They succeed non partisan incumbents recalled in a recent election.
