A mob of about 500 men hanged and burned three Black men in Kirvin Texas after the alleged assault of 17 year old Bola Wiseley. Witnesses report horrific injuries and the crowd tied the victims to a stake near two churches as flames rose high into the morning sky.
The Southern Baptist Convention gathers in Jacksonville with 7 000 to 8 000 messengers to debate plans for a South wide hospital in New Orleans two universities and a new theological seminary. A committee to collaborate with the Northern Convention on a modern Confession of Faith will be named. Women to join the executive committee and five general boards. Constitution and by laws revisions and a South wide news service considered.
A meeting last night adopted a call for a renewed strike of about 4 000 building trade workers on May 22 unless open shop operations are halted. The move aims to restrict efforts to operate trades despite current agreements.
