A Detroit inventor creates a sectional porous earthenware ice less refrigerator based on the water monkey cooling idea. Sections fit together for easy handling, with reinforced porcelain walls by wires and a tightly fitting lid with a lifting knob.
The device uses interlocking tongues and grooves to assemble a refrigerator whose interior holds wire shelves for food. Sections soak in water then are exposed to air to promote evaporation. Wet walls are kept by ring troughs around the exterior fed with water to sustain continuous cooling.
Reports describe a government artesian well at Lower Brule agency South Dakota showing unusual behavior. Initially a six inch water column then alternating sand and water, now blue clay fills the bore and rises six feet before toppling. Deposits must be removed to keep the well from burial. Weather appears to influence the clay flow.
