Digging of coal starts at Poposin mine No 2 and all available workers are put to work. Mine No 1 delayed for at least a month due to destroyed machinery while merchants expect benefit from the Hudson mine restart. Local railroad issues threaten full capacity and future interruptions are hoped to be avoided.
Lander youths from Fremont County Vocation al High School prepare for higher education this fall. Students listed include Francia Noble Harry Hornecker Roy Brenton Thomas Rigney Russell Munton Dannvi Packard Harold Wendt Ruth Carpenter Ponrl Mitchell Margaret Dickinson Jack Crofts Carl Pearson and others pursuing studies at University of Wyoming Cornell Radcliffe Grinnell and various business colleges. The Fremont County Pioneer Association will hold its annual picnic September 3 1922 at Lady Boosters Park inviting county residents 25 years and older with families to attend.
The outdoor service for Trinity Church is canceled and all worship will be held inside the church building. W. Hott notes the change and directs congregants to attend as usual indoors.
Applications are rolling in to Superintendent Foote from boys and girls countywide who seek board and room during the next school year. Housing places are being arranged rapidly and the Hennecker building will house several boys though no boys mess is provided.
Frank Brower and wife Mrs Brower and Mrs Evans sister of Ate Brower returned home Friday evening after a ten day trip to the Burk. They say they traveled in the Southern Butrapae and came back by their own way. Brower is noted for supporting home industry.
Four prisoners who escaped from the Sioux Falls penitentiary on August 17 engaged police at Stamford. They mortally wounded States Attorney M. L. Parish of Jones County and wounded Sheriff J. C. Babcock, then seized the State Attorney’s automobile and headed southwest toward Radlands.
