Wholesale prices were too limited to report with confidence. Demand is mixed with domestic call and export interest slightly weaker. Supplies are ample for extra large large and medium sizes while smalls are barely adequate. Carton demand shows scattered activity with large eggs at 45-49 cents. Under tone remains nervous.
This week 3700 receipts and last week 4000 with a year ago 4200. Slaughter steers held steady to 25 higher on Good and Low Choice under 1150 pounds, heifers steady, cows and bulls up to 25 higher. Run mostly steers and heifers with some Mixed Choice and Prime loads. Clear note on prices for various weight classes and rail loads. A Cancer Society message urges annual checkups and quitting smoking, highlighting health benefits.
In Monterey on Tuesday 1 313 head sold with steers and heifers in multiple weight classes. Prices ranged from 35.00 to 53.50 per hundredweight across good and fancy grades. In Wytheville on Friday 560 head sold with prices listed for various weight bands from 31.50 to 43.25 per hundredweight.
Oklahoma City shows estimated receipts of 14 000 with feeders steady to weaker on lighter weights and 500 to 1000 higher on heavier steers. Prices listed for feeder steers and heifers by weight reflect Choice and Good classifications with loads and parts, plus Holstein examples. The report also notes Vietor Comptometer Corp competing with Japanese firms in electronic calculators and cites a 8.7 million bikes sold in the U.S. last year with 3% lightweight models.
