In Lancaster County Interstate Milk Cooperative delegates voted to raise the milk promotion deduction from five to eight cents per hundredweight under Federal Order 4. The action occurred during the group’s annual meeting at the Host Farm, with debate over quality premiums and funding.
Lancaster County Guernsey breeders received top awards at the association's annual meeting on November 21 in Bird in Hand. K D Linde of Kirkwood led county honors with a 13 463 pound milk herd and 612 pounds of fat, plus high producing cow and high producing four year old cow awards.
Dr James E Honan general manager of the 3000 member Inter State dairy cooperative spoke at its 58th annual meeting. He blamed Country Belle Cooperative's demise in Pittsburgh and high surplus costs in New York Order 2 for rising doubts about cooperative services. He outlined surplus handling anti-trust legislative concerns consumerism and product liability shifting more responsibility to cooperatives and members.
