Brothers win titles at Lancaster beef show
Four 4-H brothers swept the Lancaster Stock Yards beef show led by Ed Wylie who showed a 1125 pound Angus cross bred steer. Jim Wylie earned the top showman award as the Wylie family dominated both champion and reserve positions. Linda Martin showed the reserve heavyweight Angus for Octoraro Farm.

Holidays Stir Big Business For Wegman Turkey Operation
Ronald and William Wegman of Reading R7 run a dressing plant that opens in August to meet the holidays demand. The family raises about 50 000 turkeys a year and processes 2000 to 3000 daily with 306 part time workers. About 25 percent of the turkeys go to Thanksgiving. remaining birds are bought from local growers.

New outbreak of poultry disease in Lancaster County
A new outbreak of laryngotracheitis is reported in Eastern Lancaster County with three cases in ten days. The disease causes respiratory symptoms in birds with a 5 to 20 percent mortality, higher in some outbreaks, and can spread via contaminated clothing and equipment linked to people.
