Centerville researchers and dairymen re-evaluate feeding programs amid breeding problems low fat tests retained placentas weak udders and digestive complications. Attention centers on high grain feeding before freshening and the risk of imbalanced rations without adequate quality feed.
Benjamin F. Morgan a Penn State animal science professor and longtime livestock extension leader received the 1975 Livestock Man of the Year award at a Pennsylvan ia Livestock Association dinner. Morgan has advised 50 plus Pennsylvania groups and has a career dating to 1935 in livestock extension work. He was lauded as a truly outstanding livestock man by Max Smith.
More than 200 people from Lancaster County agriculture and industry attended a Farm and Home Center dinner sponsored by the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee. The 15th annual event promoted National Farm-City Week and emphasized cooperation between rural and urban sectors.
York County breeder John Strawbridge of Stewartstown led the show with the reserve champion Hampshire barrow and took champion Hampshire boar and champion Hampshire in breeding. James T. Parlett of Airville won reserve champion Poland China barrow, as the grand champion junior barrow on foot was named. Continued on Page 25.
Two 4 H capon roundups this week saw ten youths present about 40 capons. Mike Pfautz won grand champion at the Lincoln club event in Ephrata earning 85 50 from a 9 1 2 pound bird at nine dollars per pound. Scott Augsberger took reserve grand champion with a 36 56 payoff.
